Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a revolutionary treatment for a variety of conditions: sun spots, freckles, birthmarks, skin imperfections, spider veins, Rosacea, acne and permanent hair reduction.
How does Intense Pulsed Light work?
Highly controlled flashes of intense filtered light are directed onto the skin. This light is absorbed by melanin (in hair and pigment spots) and blood (in vascular lesions) and converted to heat. The heat then destroys the follicle, pigment or vascular lesion, without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Is it the same as laser?
Intense Pulsed Light is similar to lasers and treat hair and lesions in basically the same way. However pulsed light systems have a larger, smooth beam and a long pulse for safe, faster, more comfortable treatments on a range of conditions.
What are IPL treatments like?

The handpiece emits a light that destroys the hair follicles and breaks up the pigment in the lesions. Each pulse feels like a slight sting, similar to the snap of a rubber band.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
Intense Pulsed Light therapy has the benefit of no down-time: most clients are able to return to work straight away with only mild skin changes immediately following treatment.
A mild sunburn-like sensation is expected, usually lasting less than an hour. Mild swelling and/or redness may accompany this which should resolve in 2-3 days.
Following hair removal: the appearance of hair growth or stubble will continue for 1-2 weeks while the hair in the follicle is expelled. During this time, you may shave or cut the hair to maintain a hair-free appearance.
Pigmented lesion treatment: lesions will gradually turn darker over the next 24 - 48 hours. Its important not to pick or scratch at these: they will fall off naturally after 7-14 days.
Vascular Lesions: vessels may change to a purple colour following treatment. The skin becomes flushed and slightly swollen. The vessel will then fully or partially fade in about 10-14 days.
After Treatment Skin Care
Moisturisers may be used as necessary, particularly if there is any peeling of the skin. Sunscreen is most important. We recommend the daily use of an SPF 30+ sunscreen. Make up may be used for camouflage, but care must be taken - apply and remove gently.
