AOYE is an NGO which has been fostering the environment and sustainable development in Egypt and the Arab World since its establishment in 1978. It was established to promote the awareness of environmental issues in Egypt and world. Throughout that time AOYE organized and participated in a number of projects which rotate around its areas of interest. Some of its main projects in recent years include the Environmental Street Project, the Environmental Hotline Service, and ongoing projects for Solid Waste Management and Recycling in addition to the annual meeting for university youth leaders on environmental and sustainable development which AOYE have been implementing on an annual basis since 1989 in all Egyptian public universities. One of the largest national projects AOYE handled was the National Community Water Conservation Program (NCWP) which took place from April 1994 - August 1997. AOYE is presently acting as the Secretariat for the arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED), in addition to hosting a number of international organizations such as UNDP/LIFE and UNDP/GEF in Egypt and is the Arabic speaking representative of the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO/ECDSE) in Athens, Greece.
