IIEC is a non-profit, NGO focusing on the promotion of sustainable energy policies, technologies and practices in developing countries. This is done through implementation of projects funded by various local and international donor organizations. IIEC Africa promotes energy and transport options that address both the development and environmental imperatives of the African continent. In South Africa, IIEC supports various housing development initiatives to ensure that the opportunity for more efficient and healthier low cost homes is not missed. IIEC Africa is also actively involved in global climate change work in order to minimize the effects of GHG emissions in South Africa. In addition, IIEC Africa is also examining how to accelerate the market penetration of energy efficient lighting and investigating the option of local manufacture or assembly to make this technology more affordable to home owners.
