"Himeji is located at the center of the Harima Plain in the Surrounded by mountains and the sea, Himeji has developed as a transportation hub of western Japan. While evolving as a center for economy,culture and education in the Harima region, the City now comprises a large economic and cultural bloc in the region. since himeji was upgraded to a ""Core City"" in April 1996,the City has been working toward further advances as one of japan's leading cities."
